Domestic violence victims may enter the civil legal system through protection order court, domestic relations court or juvenile court. Each “world” makes different demands of victims. Protection order court requires proof of danger, domestic relations court sees two parents who should cooperate to raise their children, and juvenile court holds her responsible for her child’s safety. How can survivors navigate these systems when what works in one world may work against them in another?
