Talking with Young Women about Re-victimization Risk: Comparing Two Approaches

  • Research describes two models of re-victimization in girls and women. First, social learning models focus on relationship and gender-role expectancies. Second, risk detection models focus on risk detection abilities. We will describe results from research comparing two curricula derived from these models to address re-victimization risk among 180 diverse, female adolescents involved with the child welfare system. The strengths of each approach will be discussed as well as implications for adapting prevention programming for adolescents.
