This workshop will address the steps needed to take in order to get qualified as an expert witness and will explore who might qualify as an expert. The workshop leaders will discuss building a relationship with your prosecutors, defense attorneys and civil attorneys. Core areas of expertise such as: Cycle of Violence, Myths, Strangulation, Trauma Response, Why a Victim Stays, Consent, DFSA Dynamics, will be highlighted and potential questions of the expert explored. Several court cases will be reviewed and the presenters will walk participants through how an expert was used. In Summit County we recently had success in a high profile murder case with the use of an expert witness. 48 Hours will be airing a show about this case in the near future and the presenters hope to use this to demonstrate the effectiveness of expert testimony.
